Ingredients

  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cumin
  • ¾ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder

Instructions

  • Combine all the spices in a small mixing bowl. Stir or whisk thoroughly until evenly blended.
  • Transfer the seasoning to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to six months, or use immediately as desired.

To prepare taco meat:

  • Cook 1 pound of ground beef or turkey in a skillet until browned.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of the prepared taco seasoning, 1/4 teaspoon of salt (or adjust to taste), 1/2 cup of water, and optionally, 1/2 cup of canned tomato sauce.
  • Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated.
  • Serve the seasoned meat in warmed tortillas or use as a filling for your favorite dishes.

Notes

This recipe is typically prepared without salt to allow seasoning flexibility during cooking. For a pre-salted mix, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the spice blend.
