Create flavorful tacos, taco soup, salads, and more with this easy homemade taco seasoning. Made in minutes with common pantry spices, it’s a versatile and fresher alternative to store-bought mixes.
Combine all the spices in a small mixing bowl. Stir or whisk thoroughly until evenly blended.
Transfer the seasoning to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to six months, or use immediately as desired.
To prepare taco meat:
Cook 1 pound of ground beef or turkey in a skillet until browned.
Add 2 tablespoons of the prepared taco seasoning, 1/4 teaspoon of salt (or adjust to taste), 1/2 cup of water, and optionally, 1/2 cup of canned tomato sauce.
Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated.
Serve the seasoned meat in warmed tortillas or use as a filling for your favorite dishes.
Notes
This recipe is typically prepared without salt to allow seasoning flexibility during cooking. For a pre-salted mix, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the spice blend.
